Acupressure Therapy
- Equine Acupressure therapy is a non-invasive ancient healing art that uses the practitionersʼ energy via touch through the fingers to press specific acupoints along channels of energy located throughout the animalʼs body to stimulate the bodyʼs natural self-curative abilities.
- The principles are the same as acupuncture, however, this therapy does not use needles.
- Numerous acupoints are located along these energy channels and can be manipulated by the practitioner.
- The healing touch of acupressure may strengthen the horseʼs resistance to disease, and therefore be used not only to aid in the healing of a condition that is already present, but help illness or injury from coming on.
- Acupressure therapy is tailored to address the horsesʼ specific health needs. It may be used to maintain good health, as a preventative tool, or to address specific conditions.
- The goal of this therapy is to minimize and/or resolve the issue depending upon the circumstance at hand.
- It can assist with chronic, as well as acute conditions. It has the ability to improve the horseʼs performance, as well as maintain overall health.
Equine Massage Therapy
- Equine Massage balances the horseʼs entire body and its systems, allowing the horse to move, work and perform at full capacity.
- Horseʼs are composed of 60% muscle. To function properly, a muscle must be able to contract and release, with its fibers gliding and folding over one another.
- When muscle tissue becomes tight, it is no longer able to efficiently eliminate waste products, which results in a build-up of toxins. This build-up of toxins compromises the muscleʼs ability to collect oxygen. Oxygen deprivation prevents the elimination of the toxins, and so a viscous cycle begins. The end result is that the muscle becomes damaged, painful, knotted and spasmodic.
- All of theses issues lead to loss in range of motion, power, coordination, function, balance and performance. Because horseʼs have four legs they can compensate for muscle troubles in such a way that can often be difficult to detect the source of the problem to an untrained eye.
- The longer the muscles are compromised, the more evident the loss of mobility.
- The bulk of muscular strain injuries take time to surface and outwardly present in the horse, therefore the bulk of strain injuries are PREVENTABLE through massage therapy.
